A method for ethical AI in Defence was developed at a 2019 workshop attended by representatives from Defence, other Australian government agencies, TASDCRC, civil society, universities and Defence industry. The method is built on five facets:
- responsibility – who is responsible for AI?
- governance – how is AI controlled?
- trust – how can AI be trusted?
- law – how can AI be used lawfully?
- traceability – how are the actions of AI recorded?
The Trusted Autonomous Systems Defence Cooperative Research Centre (TASDCRC) developed 14 videos to provide an overview of ethical AI and in-depth exploration of the five facets. These videos were produced by TASDCRC for the Centre for Defence Leadership & Ethics at the Australian Defence College.
