Dr Truyen Tran
Deakin University
Dr. Truyen Tran is an Associate Professor at Deakin University and leads a top research team that focuses on creating AI that is compatible with human beings by using advanced machine learning techniques. His expertise lies in deep learning, machine reasoning, unifying language and vision, cognitive architectures, and social AI. As Head of AI, Health and Science, he is helping to revolutionise fields such as science, healthcare, and engineering by using AI.
Dr. Tran has been recognised and awarded multiple times internationally for his significant research contributions. He obtained his BSc. degree from the University of Melbourne in 2001 and a PhD in Computer Science from Curtin University in 2008.

AI as a general-purpose technology akin to steam engines and electricity, holds the potential for profound global socio-economic change. In this seminar, Dr Tran will delve into a new form of disruptive AI known as Generative AI (GenAI) and its revolutionary impact on how we live, work, and interact with our environment. This discussion will cover GenAI’s arrival, capability and its impact. We will also discuss the challenges and opportunities that GenAI presents to industry leaders and practitioners including the defence sector. We’ll explore its potential to reshape industries, push creative boundaries, and expand consolidated knowledge – GenAI has become the cornerstone upon which new platforms, companies, and industries are built.
